Sunnybrook Auto up and running

Photo by Rachelle Klemme Dick Baso, owner of Sunnybrook Auto, shows a Dodge Ram 3500. Sunnybrook Auto has been open since Tuesday, July 5.

Sunnybrook Auto is back in Wadena - although this time, it is on the west side of U.S. Highway 10.

The new Wadena location, which is on the old Stoneman Oil site, has been up and running since July 5. The business does auto sales and some light mechanical repair, including brakes, tires and oil changes.

Owner Dick Baso said that the price range for the used vehicles is about $4,000 to $10,000. Sunnybrook Auto offers a variety of brands, and Baso said the business's strong point is pickups for farmers, contractors and other people who need those kinds of vehicles to get their jobs done.

Jim Rittmiller is the sales manager, and Matt Peterson will do shop work.

Baso said that Sunnybrook Auto, which has its main location in Menahga, needed an additional location. When the Stoneman location opened up, it suited their needs and the number of cars available.

"We've been in business at various locations since 1995," he said.

That was the year when it started at its first location: the east side of Wadena next to Sunnybrook Park. Baso said they operated for about seven or eight years on the east side location.

Baso lives in Eagle Bend and also has an insurance business there. He has had an interest in and experience in the automotive business for a long time.

"I've always been kind of a car buff, you might say, or a car type person ever since high school - from doing mechanical work to selling cars on the side," he said. "I started up five different auto parts stores over the years, too."

Baso said he was excited to have a Sunnybrook Auto location in Wadena, as it is a county seat and has a higher population than most of the towns he has worked in.

Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 6:50 p.m. Monday - Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
