Business expo will feature driver of storm chaser

Joel Taylor, the driver of the Dominator tornado vehicle from Discovery Channel's "Storm Chasers," will be a guest speaker at the 1st annual Central Minnesota Business Expo on July 9 at the Wadena-Deer Creek Elementary School.

Taylor is part of Reed Timmer's team intercepting the East Otter Tail EF4 tornado in "Judgment Day," the season 4 finale which aired on Discovery on Dec. 1.

The business expo itself is free to the public and runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with vendor booths at the main elementary gym.

Taylor will be available to meet the public at his own booth representing the TVN team's website, TornadoVideos.Net.

"You'll be able to meet him, shake his hand," organizer Chris Houts said. "You can purchase items from their store."

The tornado vehicle driver will speak at 6 p.m. at the Memorial Auditorium. Seating is limited, and tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. They go on sale this Monday and can be purchased at Harvest Thyme Bistro or the Chamber of Commerce, or by contacting Houts.

Houts said he got the idea from attending the Big Lake Chamber Expo on March 6 where Timmer was the featured speaker.

He said there is still room for vendors. The cost is $100 for an 8x8 booth, and vendors are encouraged to bring door prizes. Booths are open to organizations and nonprofits as well as businesses both in and out of the Wadena area.

"We've talked to people in Brainerd and even further away," Houts said.

June 27 is the deadline for vendors to sign up.

Interested vendors can contact Houts at (218) 270-0513.

Houts said he anticipates about 2,000 people attending and they are trying to fill 63 booths.

All proceeds, minus expenses, will go to the Long-Term Recovery Committee.
