City approves 1 percent bump for part-timers

The Wadena city council approved a variety of contracts and appointments on the Dec. 14 regular meeting.

Dale Haman was appointed as second assistant fire chief.

The council adopted a 1 percent schedule in most departments for part-time employee wages. The fire department had higher percentage increases. Fire Chief Dean Uselman said it was not exorbitant, the level of responsibility was changing and officers were held to higher standards.

The council discussed the position of Planning and Zoning Director, with Byron Larson retiring.

The council adopted the 2011 Tax Levy and the 2011 General Fund and Enterprise Funds budgets.

The council approved a temporary liquor license for the Wine and Chocolate event at the Depot.

The council approved a Street and Sewer Union 2009/2010 wage agreement.

"After a little over a year of negotiations, we have a settlement finally," City Administrator Brad Swenson said.

The council adopted a contractor safety compliance policy.

The council de-certified TIF districts 1-3, 1-5 and 1-6, saying that all three have fulfilled their obligations and reached the end of their life. Two are left.

The council approved re-appointments of Mike Pete and Diane Schiller-Anderson to the Park Advisory Board, and re-appointment of Scott Pettit.

The council approved miscellaneous licenses and looked at license fees. "The state of Minnesota in their infinite wisdom has decided to license tattoo shops now," City Administrator Brad Swenson said. "Their fees are astronomical."

"The state needs money, folks," council member Toby Pierce said.

The council approved electric, water, sewer accounts and miscellaneous accounts receivable write-offs as is typical every year.

The council also approved a step adjustment for Dean Uselman as WDA director retroactive to Aug. 14.
