Fleet Supply moving to old Pamida building

Fleet Supply owner Rich Taggart will be moving his Wadena business into the former Pamida building this fall.

The owners of Fleet Supply are planning to take a short trip.

Rich and Carol Taggart will be moving their business from its present location at 949 Jefferson Street North to the former Pamida building at 801 Jefferson Street North this fall.

"It just looked like a good move for us," Rich Taggart said. "I think we're going to gain more customers."

The Pamida building has been vacant since January 2009 when the discount center was closed due to a weak national economy.

Remodeling of the former discount retail building will be carried out this summer.

"We'll have to put in an overhead door in the back," Taggart said. "We're not going to rush into it. We want to do it right."

Fleet Supply has been in Wadena since 1955. Taggart became a part-owner in 1976 and took full ownership in 2000.

Papers transferring ownership of the former Pamida building were signed May 28.

"We were just looking to expand some lines like plumbing and electrical," he said.

Taggart also wants to expand his pet care line.

The Pamida building has 10,000 more square feet than Taggart's present location and a larger parking lot.

Fleet Supply carries many types of merchandise but caters especially to farmers.

Taggart is planning to sell the present Fleet Supply building just off U.S. Highway 71 when the opportunity presents itself.

"We have been here a long time and we plan on being here for a lot longer," Taggart said.
