Staples teen dies in collision with semi on 210
David Jacob Miller, 17, of Staples died Thursday morning when the 2000 Horse Buggy Landau he was driving was rear-ended by a 2011 Mack 600 semi-truck driven by Douglas William Calkins, 60, Deerwood.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Miller's horse and buggy was westbound on Highway 210 near 211th Avenue in Todd County when the collision occurred at 7:19 a.m. Miller was ejected onto the roadway and transported by air to North Memorial Hospital in the Twin Cities. The horse also suffered fatal injuries in the crash.
Calkins was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. Alcohol was not involved.
