Ft. Thunder Open Fun Shoot May 18

The Fort Thunder Public Shooting Center in Perham will be hosting the L & L Fabrication & Steel Co. Open Fun Shoot on Sunday, May 18.

The All-Around Clay's event will start at 9 a.m. with registration at the clubhouse before each of the shooting events: 25 Five-Stand Sporting Clays, 25 Skeet, and 50 Sporting Clay's.

Entry Fee's are $40 for 100 target. There will be money awarded for 1st and 2nd in A,B and C Lewis Classes.

Bike Club in Deer Creek May 20

The Lakes Area Bike Club's next ride will be on Tuesday, May 20 in the Deer Creek area. Riders should meet at 6:30 p.m. at Brewski's at 113 Main Ave. in Deer Creek.

There will be varying ride lengths and helmets are recommended. There is no charge to ride with the club and new riders of all abilities are always welcome.

Men's and ladies' league sign-up at PLGC

Perham Lakeside Golf Club is now taking sign-ups for both its Men's and Ladies' leagues.

Men's League will start on Tuesday, May 20 with a Fun Nite for both the 9 and 18-hole leagues.

The ladies will start Wednesday, May 21 with a 9 a.m. shotgun, followed by lunch, for the 18-hole morning league and a 5 a.m. shotgun, dinner and brief meeting for the 9-hole afternoon league.

New members are invited both days. Any questions can be answered by calling Nick Anderson at 346-6070.

Perham Chamber Golf Scramble

The Perham Area Chamber Golf Scramble will be held on Friday, May 30 at Perham Lakeside Golf Club.

Golf will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. with registration opening at 12 p.m. Social hour will be at 5:30 p.m. with dinner to follow around 6:30 p.m.

To get your team signed up for the 4-person scramble, or to get more information, call Dan Schroeder at the Perham Area Chamber of Commerce at 346-7710 or 800-634-6112. Space is limited to the first 124 golfers. Registration forms should be completed and returned by May 21.

You don't have to golf to come out and enjoy the day. There are separate tickets for just the dinner ($20) and the don't forget the social hour at 5:30 p.m.

PAYHA dryland hockey clinic

The Perham Area Youth Hockey Association (PAYHA) will be hosting their inaugural dryland (off-ice) camp at the PACC.

The camp is being put on by PAYHA, with special instructor Matt Koalska, a former Golden Gopher hockey player.

The focus of the clinic is to develop fundamental stick handling, shooting and agility skills though off ice training.

The camp is open to kids ages six and up, and no hockey experience required. Registration fees will be $25 for kids 6-8, and $45 for kids 8 and older.

There will be four sessions of the camp. The first will be May 17-18. The other three sessions will be: June 28-29, July 19-20 and August 23-24. Saturday sessions start at 9 a.m.; Camp will start at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Mills Baseball Walleye Tourney

The New York Mills Youth Baseball Association is holding a walleye tournament June 14 on Big Pine Lake.

Registration is open for the 2nd Annual tournament with cash paid to the top 10 places. First place is guaranteed $1,000 with all other places based on a full field of 65 teams. Cash prizes will be awarded by total team weight.

Entry fee is $130 for 2-person teams. Fishing hours are 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., June 14, on Big Pine Lake. Tournament headquarters will be at Ron Ehnert Beach where the contestants will start and end.

Walleyes - minimum length is 14". Limit of six fish. There is a slot on Big Pine and all fish between 18" and 26" must be released. Any infraction of this rule will result in disqualification.

Tournament will be catch and release. No dead fish will be weighed. All boats must be inspected before tournament hours. Inspection will begin at 5:30 a.m. on Ron Ehnert Beach, which is located on the north side of Big Pine.

A mandatory rules and orientation meeting will be held at Lund Park in NY Mills on Friday, June 13 at 7 p.m. One member of each team must attend unless other arrangements have been made.

All proceeds go towards the benefit and development of NY Mills youth baseball.

Rutten to play at UW-LaCrosse

Perham senior Sam Rutten has signed to play basketball at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse.

Rutten was named HOL All-Conference this past year. He earned the team's Offensive Player of the Year award and the Jacket award, handed out by team coaches.

The Eagles are coached by Ken Koelbl. They finished 11-15 overall last season, 6-10 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Perham youth teams in State Tournament

The Perham 6th, 7th, and 8th grade boys basketball teams will be participating in the Pacesetter State Championships in June. The 6th grade will be playing on June 7 in St. Cloud. The 7th and 8th graders will be playing on June 14 in St. Cloud.
