Service dog fundraiser for Dent boy
A spaghetti dinner/silent auction to help raise funds to provide a service dog for a rural Dent boy is scheduled for Sunday, January 20. The fundraiser will run from 11:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Perham.
Six-year-old Wyatt Herrmann is scheduled to meet his dog Ivan for the first time at the fundraiser. All proceeds from the event will go toward the $14,000 cost of Ivan's training.
Diagnosed with autism at the age of four, Wyatt uses nonverbal communication, has difficulty responding and tends to wander.
Ivan is a yellow lab aquired through Capable Canines of Wisconsin, Inc. Trainer Danette Jensen is teaching Ivan the specific tasks he will need to perform to care for Wyatt. Ivan's main job will be to prevent Wyatt from wandering into dangerous situations.
Supplemental funds are being provided by the East Otter Tail County Chapter of Thrivent for Lutherans. Gifts baskets from area merchants will be available, along with purse, diaper bag, and wallet sales by the "ND Bag Lady."
Auction items include: a Wolfgang Puck 18 piece cookware set, a Chihuahua/Rat Terrier cross, three men's watch sets, women's designer rings, Mikasa merchandise, items from Karvonen's, a gift basket from the Wahpeton Zoo, and much more.
Gift certificates for Spanky's on Rose Creek, Photo Magic, Lakes Processing of D.L., Ketter's Meats, Sugar Creek Woodworking, Pride Auto in Dent, casino getaways, and more will also be available.
