FFA animal team qualifies for state competition

The Wadena-Deer Creek FFA small animal team placed second at the FFA Region II Small Animal Career Event on Jan. 10 at Central Lakes College in Brainerd.

Team members are Caleb Monson, Tiffany Shultz, Addie Crocker, Hanna Jacobson and Jodana Albers. This placing qualifies the team for state competition at the State FFA Convention, held at the University of Minnesota in April.

Crocker placed 10th high individual, Tiffany Shultz placed eighth, and Hanna Jacobson placed fifth high individual, qualifying her for state as an individual.

The Small Animal Career Development Event (CDE) is designed to assess student knowledge and application, as well as analytical and evaluation abilities in the area of small animal care, veterinary skills and pet store management.

Small animal identification, a written test, skeleton parts and ration balancing/ cost practicum are parts of the contest.

The Small Animal CDE emphasizes dog, cat, bird, fish and rabbit species.
