Wadena United Methodist church to celebrate 100th anniversary of their church building April 22

Wadena United Methodist Church members and friends are invited to celebrate the 100 years of Methodism in the 1911 structure even though the first church was dedicated in 1882.

The Wadena United Methodist Church bids you welcome to a day of worship and a fellowship celebration with a service at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 22 at the Methodist Church. Enjoy the Praise Team and United Methodist Handbell Choir followed with a meal at 11:30 a.m. to be served in the Fellowship Hall. The celebration program will be held at 1 p.m. for members and friends. The public is welcome. Featured in the program is the district superintendent and six past pastors and their present pastor, Shirley Nelson.

There will be mementoes available and a new book available which includes the town history and church history, including a scrapbook section. Stop and look at the confirmation pictures hung in the Epworth League Room and other picture books where you'll see the members serving the Wadena United Methodist Church.

The Methodist church began in 1873 with four members under the direction of the Rev. J. H. Crist, a frontier missionary. These meetings were held in homes. When the membership increased, it was then when they used the Northern Pacific depot for their services.

In 1882, a wooden church structure was dedicated. In 1885, an addition was constructed to meet the social and Sunday school needs of the growing congregation. The present church cornerstone was laid on Sept. 4, 1911.

The anniversary committee is looking forward to this celebration and the church welcomes every one.
