Trojans hand Pirates 8-4 defeat

Brett Brockpahler walked six but fanned nine as the Sebeka Trojans out-lasted Verndale 8-4 Tuesday in a Park Region Conference contest.

Brockpahler shut out the Pirates in six of the seven innings she pitched and beat the Verndale crew for the second time this season.

The Pirates trailed 2-0 in the top of the fifth when Sydney Weniger led off a single. Elyssa Kern, Jordyn Glenz and Sarah Moenkedick drew walks and courtesy runner Brooke Holweg scored Verndale's first run. Kirstin Korfe reached on a fielder's choice when the Trojans went home to force Kern. Teresa Moenkedick followed with a two-run double. Korfe scored on a wild pitch to cap the four-run frame.

The Trojans tied the game at 4-all on Jessica Lillquist's two-run double in the bottom half of the fifth.

The Trojans erupted for four runs in the bottom of the sixth as Natalie Stiles and Jasmine Titcomb delivered singles, Donna Ehnert was hit by a pitch and Aleashia Rathcke and Katie Brockpahler drew walks.

Weninger collected three hits for the Pirates. Katie Brockpahler came up with two hits, three runs and one RBI for Sebeka. Lillquist and Rathcke both had two hits. Lillquist joined Shelby Pulju with two ribbies.

Elyssa Kern scored from third with one out in the bottom of the seventh Thursday as the Pirates ralled to edge the Panthers in Park Region Conference action.

Dan Johnson's club erupted for seven runs in the first inning but the Panthers led 13-9 after five frames. After creeping within two runs of the Panthers in the sixth, the Pirates capped an improbable comeback when five straight walks brought in two runs and Kern cashed in on one of Parkers Prairie's five errors.

Sydney Weniger went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs for the Pirates. Jordyn Glenz, Jordy Schluttner and Jackie Swenson combined for six hits, six runs and four RBIs. Teresa Moenkedick scored three times.

Micela Noga went 4-for-5 and scored three times for the Panthers. Courtney Blake and Heather Moske combined for four hits, four runs and six RBIs.

Moenkedick relieved Kirstin Korfe in the fifth and posted the win. Kristina Brunson came on in the third and issued 10 walks in suffering the loss.
