Staples man accused of third degree criminal sexual conduct
A 22-year-old man from Staples is accused of third-degree criminal sexual conduct after an encounter at a shop he worked at with an adult female in February.
Court records indicate Elliot Lawrence Sandberg had sexual contact with the woman after performing an oil change on her car. Both he and the alleged victim agreed she had said "no" during the encounter, but Sandberg told investigators the "no" was not said "in a serious manner."
Sandberg said the woman had been flirting with him and the sex was consensual. The woman told police it was not consensual and she had no way of getting away from Sandberg.
The defendant's first court appearance was set for March 26.
