Thumper Pond hit by robber with pepper spray

A man armed with a wooden club and a can of pepper spray robbed the Thumper Pond Hotel early Friday, Dec. 23.

The Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office said the man, a white male, medium build, 5'10" to 6' tall, 20-30 years old, jumped over the guest services front counter and sprayed the female hotel employee in the face with pepper spray.

He then demanded she get the cash from the cash registers and the hotel's safety deposit boxes. The employee was then left in a closet as the suspect fled. Henning Ambulance treated the clerk for the pepper spray.

The suspect was wearing camouflage cargo pants, a gray/blue hooded sweatshirt, dark-colored gloves, and ski-mask material wrapped around his face, the sheriff's office said. He was also wearing sunglasses that were bright green on the side of the frame.

Investigators said it is unknown if he fled on foot or in a vehicle. The amount of cash stolen was not disclosed.

A Wadena County K-9 team assisted in investigating, but no suspect has been located. Anyone with information is asked to call the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office.
