Wadena-Deer Creek High School media center specialist, Loni Niles, celebrated Christmas early recently when she unpacked boxes of new library books.

The books will help replace the reference collection and non-fiction books lost after the EF4 tornado severely damaged the high school on June 17, 2010. The storm destroyed and damaged roughly 7,000 books (or half) of the high school's library.

Thanks to WDC High School being a recipient of a $5,000 grant from the Laura Bush Foundation this year, the books are a welcome addition to the high school media center, temporary located in the lower level of the elementary school. Niles submitted a lengthy grant request to the Laura Bush Foundation as a way to help rebuild the library, specifically the reference collection as students use these books for classroom projects.
