Bertha church festival adds cribbage tourney

Photo provided Keith Radniecki designed this cribbage board for the cribbage tournament at Bertha's St. Joseph Catholic Church Festival, Aug. 14.

St. Joseph, a carpenter, would likely appreciate the cribbage boards designed in his honor for this year's church festival at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bertha on Sunday, Aug. 14. A cribbage tourney starting at 2:30 p.m. has been added to this year's turkey/ham dinner with homemade au gratin potatoes and pie on the menu (11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.)

Parishioner Keith Radniecki decided to organize the cribbage tourney after seeing one at a Twin Cities church. He learned the game from his wife, Emily, and her family and decided it might be a good addition to St. Joseph Church's festival. The STJ design came to him while he was working as a crane operator. A friend used a computer program to create the pattern and drill the holes with equipment significantly more technical than tools St. Joseph used. Radniecki cut out 20 boards for the event.

The tourney has a $5 entry fee and a $100 grand prize. Register to play on Aug. 14. Contact Radniecki at (218) 280-9303 for more information.

This year's festival also includes children's "Saints" games, a cake walk, silent auction, bingo and a raffle.
