Sebeka man faces sex crime from 2009

A man who allegedly confessed to a sexual incident involving a 16-year-old girl on his way to a marriage counselor faces a second-degree criminal sexual conduct charge in Wadena County.

According to court records, Jeremy Monroe Armstrong, 30, had sexual contact with a girl who had recently turned 16 in his vehicle in September 2009.

The girl had apparently never told anyone about the incident, but when Armstrong was on his way to marriage counseling in January of this year, he allegedly texted the girl that he planned to confess the encounter. The girl told police she didn't want to ruin Armstrong's marriage by revealing the secret.

On Feb. 15, Armstrong told investigators he wanted to come clean to his wife about the incident, and said it was a truth-or-dare game in which "the dares got more daring."

He was charged May 13 with two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct. The maximum penalty of each count is 25 years in prison and/or a $35,000 fine.

His first appearance in Wadena County District Court was set for June 13.
