Sebeka man loses leg in ag accident
A 23-year-old man from Sebeka lost his left leg from the knee down in an agricultural machinery accident on Friday, March 11.
According to the Wadena County Sheriff's Office, Anthony Lawrence Fischer got his leg caught in an auger around 2:55 p.m. at Olson's Custom Farm Service in Sebeka.
Sebeka Fire and Rescue and Tri-County Ambulance were dispatched to the scene. Fischer was taken by ambulance to the emergency room at Tri-County Hospital in Wadena, and was then airlifted to another medical facility. First responders were able to find parts of the severed leg, which were then transported to the remote medical facility by the Minnesota State Patrol.
As a result of his injuries, Fischer lost his leg from the knee down.
The sheriff's office said it believes the mishap occurred when Fischer started the equipment and stepped on a guard covering the auger, and that guard apparently gave way and Fischer's leg got pulled into the auger, also hooking his foot and leg at the same time.
