Caring Friends welcome 'Mama Carol' from Zambia
The public is invited to join Caring Friends of Wadena at a special luncheon at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 30, at the Miracle Mansion in Wadena to listen to a presentation by Carol McBrady, a Minnesota native, who started a home and farm for street children in Lusaka, Zambia. The former social worker found her calling several years ago on a mission trip to Africa, and she organized Action for Children Zambia (www.afczambia.org) based in Lakeville, Minn. McBrady takes in more than 30 children at a time who have been orphaned by AIDS/HIV. She provides a home, gets them in school and helps them find jobs. Some of the older boys live on a farm and raise chickens and vegetables to eat and sell.
During her visit to Minnesota, volunteers plan to fill barrels to be shipped to Lusaka, and items can be dropped off at the luncheon. Older boys and men size clothing, Game Boy units and games, twin sheets and even treats like brown sugar and mac/cheese are welcome.
There is a cost ($8) for the soup and sandwich lunch. A freewill offering will be taken for AFCZ. Call (320) 874-0295 by March 25 if you plan to attend.
