The Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverine boys' basketball team, the WDC Student Council and others will present the Perham boys' basketball team and coaches with donations for Zach Gabbard and his family prior to the start of the varsity game at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 4 at WDC Elementary Gym.

WDC students, staff and parents have been busy raising funds for Zach, including the Wolverine boys' basketball team selling orange bracelets bearing Zach's initials and basketball number; the WDC Student Council collecting coins from students and staff, as well as a donation made by the WDC Winter Athletics and families of a 5-piece Homecrest patio set for the Zach Gabbard Benefit on Feb. 27, which brought in a bid of $1,400.

Also at Friday night's game at WDC, a basketball signed by the Timberwolves as well as college basketball merchandise will be raffled off to benefit Zach. Raffle tickets will be sold during the JV and varsity games.

Zach Gabbard is the 17-year-old junior on the Perham basketball team who collapsed during a Heart O' Lakes Conference varsity game on Jan. 20 in Glyndon. Fortunately, an emergency room nurse was attending the game and a defibrillator was on hand. After receiving emergency medical treatment, Gabbard was taken to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, where open heart surgery was performed. Once stable, Zach was moved to the University of Minnesota for more specialized care.
