Operation Round Up program awards grants to local groups
The Todd-Wadena Community Trust board this month awarded Operation Round up grants totaling $10,323 to 15 local organizations.
Recipient organizations in this round were: Bertha-Hewitt Community Education ($500), Browerville Public Schools ($1,200), Browerville High School ($980), Eagle Bend Public Library ($500), Eagle Bend Senior Center ($500), Empty Stocking ($500), Sebeka Food Shelf ($486), Staples Elementary School ($1,000), Staples Food Shelf ($1,100), Staples Senior Center ($500), Todd County Council on Aging ($500), Todd County Historical Museum ($1,500), Wadena Otter Tail Long Term Recovery ($500), Wadena County Historical Society ($307), Wadena-Deer Creek School ($250).
Funds for Operation Round Up come from Todd-Wadena Electric Cooperative members who allow their monthly electric bills to be rounded up to the nearest dollar, with the change allocated to the Community Trust fund. The average donation is less than fifty cents a month, yet the Trust fund typically donates about $30,000 annually to community service projects in the two-county area.
Todd-Wadena's Operation Round Up grant applications are reviewed and recipients selected by an eight-member volunteer Community Trust board. The next application deadlines in 2011 are May 15 and Sept. 15.
Local, nonprofit community service groups may apply for Operation Round Up grants by stopping by or calling the cooperative office at (800) 321-8932 or by downloading a copy of the application form and guidelines from the Todd-Wadena website: www.toddwadena.coop.
