Wolverines aggressive, but scoreboard shows loss

The Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines out-shot Morris/Benson 32-26 but lost an 8-5 decision Tuesday at Expo Arena in Long Prairie.

The Storm were able to cash in on four of their 10 first period shots. Tyler Hansen racked up a hat trick in the period and Mac Beyer iced a solo goal. WDC's David Najjar scored the game's first goal just 37 seconds into the contest with assists from Logan Meyer and Trenton Wollenburg.

Taylor Bienusa cut the Morris/Benson lead to a pair of goals when he iced a power play goal at the 1:47 mark of Period 2 on a feed from Colter Pettit. The two clubs took turns scoring in the second period with Bridger Pettit finding the net at the 12:17 mark for WDC. Bienusa and Colter Pettit were credited with assists. Beyer and Kelly Engquist scored for the Storm.

The Wolverines got back-to-back goals from Colter Pettit to start the third period. Bienusa assisted on Pettit's first goal at 1:15. Najjar fed Pettit on a power play score at 3:58. The Storm did not score until the 10:48 mark when Luke Schwarz put them up 7-5. An empty net goal by Engquist capped the scoring at 16:41.

Dylan Isola stopped 19 of the 26 shots he faced. Andrew Fath kicked out 27 shots for the Storm.

Red Lake Falls 8, WDC 4

The Eagles scored eight times in the first two periods Saturday to top the Wolverines in an outdoor match in Wadena.

Ryan Amiot and Garrett Schmitz iced two goals apiece for the Eagles.

Red Lake Falls was up 4-0 before WDC's Colter Pettit scored at the 15:53 mark with feeds from Taylor Bienusa and Bridger Pettit.

After the Eagles grabbed an 8-1 lead the Wolverines scored three times in the third period behind goals from Logan Meyer, David Najjar and Mike Paavola.

Bienusa and Bridger Pettit both collected two assists. Shane Motschenbacher, Duke Harrison and Mason Freeman all had one assist.

Dylan Isola stopped 28 shots in the loss. Cole Larson earned the win with 27 saves.
