Four BHV matmen place in state tournament

Four Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale wrestlers placed in the Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association's Freshman Tournament last Saturday in Champlin Park.

Justin Gordon and Nick Bennett placed fourth in the 100- and 152-pound weight classes. Gordon won his first two matches but was stopped in the third round by the eventual state champ. Bennett reached the semifinals in the same way at Gordon but he also ran afoul of the eventual state champ.

Andy Bounds won two and lost two n the 171-pound weight class to place seventh. Bounds scored a pin in his final match. Dalton Baker notched two pins after losing his first match 3-2. The BHV heavweight placed eighth in the heavyweight division.

Wadena-Deer Creek's Devin Barthel posted a 1-2 record at the state tournament in the 112-pound class.
