Level 3 sex offender moving to Menahga area
On Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, the Wadena County Sheriff's Office learned from the Department of Corrections that a Level 3 predatory offender will be moving to Wadena County on Saturday, Feb. 5.
Sheriff Mike Carr and staff, Menahga Police Department and the Department of Corrections held a Community Notification Meeting on Feb. 3 at the Menahga Public High School.
Level 3 offenders are predatory offenders who have been to prison and upon release are identified as having characteristics indicating the highest risk to reoffend. The meeting will provide specific information on the offender moving to the Menahga area and information generally regarding sex offenders in the community.
Predatory offenders are those offenders required to register with the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. Most offenses requiring registration are associated with sexual offending but kidnapping and false imprisonment are also included as predatory offenses. More information on community notification and Level 3 offenders can be found at the Minnesota Department of Corrections website at www.doc.state.mn.us.
