Elected official wage set at Jan. 20 county board meeting

After setting new salaries for elected officials during the Jan. 4 Wadena County Board meeting, with the condition that the salary increase would not trigger the "me too" clause of the union contract language, the county's labor attorney and human resource consultant discussed the issue with the Union Representative. HR Consultant Mike Gibson reported to the board that if the salaries were increased as presented at the previous board meeting, it could trigger the "me too" clause and could lead to problems for the county. Gibson presented recommendations to the board, and the board unanimously approved elected officials' wages to be set as follows:

• County recorder at $46,509

• County attorney at $87,256

• County sheriff at $82,550

• County auditor/treasurer at $62,254.

These salaries are set only for 2011 and retroactive to Jan. 1.

Purchase of two squad cars approved

Sheriff Mike Carr asked the Wadena County commissioners for approval to purchase two squad cars, as is done each year.

The purchase of the vehicles has been approved in the department's budget. The purchase of the vehicles was approved unanimously by the board and future purchases already approved in the department's budget will not require additional board approval. Carr will advise the board when he intends to make the purchases.

In other action, the Wadena County commissioners approved:

• Local Option Disaster Property Tax Credits for taxes payable in 2011;

• An agreement with Central Minnesota Council on Aging;

• Joint Powers Agreement with Prairie Lakes Municipal Solid Waste Authority;

• FMLA request for a county employee.
