Jacob Box and Logan Lange each crossed the goal line three times last Friday as Pequot Lakes whipped Wadena-Deer Creek in a Homecoming game.

Box rambled 57 yards for the game's first touchdowns and turned two of his three catches into touchdowns from 15 and 28 yards out. Pequot Lakes quarterback Nevin Greer, who was six of seven throwing the ball, also hit Andrew Blaeser with a 25-yard TD.

Logan Lange hurt the Wolverines on the ground by breaking off scoring runs of 24, 26 and 36 yards. Lange finished the game with 138 yards on 14 carries.

The Class 2A Wolverines lost for the sixth straight time after opening the season Sept. 3 at Park Rapids with a 19-13 win. The Class 3A Patriots, who were coming off their first loss of the season, built a 40-0 halftime lead by the half and did not allow WDC on the board until the fourth quarter.

"Pequot Lakes is a very physical team," WDC head coach Tom VanErp said. "Their size and speed overwhelmed us in the first half."

Despite the pounding, VanErp was pleased with the way the Wolverines focused on their final regular season game with Warroad and ended the shutout with two Josh Sherman touchdowns.

"We talked at halftime about getting something positive going in the second half and build for Game 8 and the playoffs," VanErp said. "We were able to work out some things in the second half and had some success with our run game."

Sherman broke off an 11-yard scoring run for WDC's first touchdown. He then scooped up a Pequot Lakes fumble and returned it 36 yard for WDC's first defensive touchdown of the season.

Logan Meyer was WDC's top ground gainer with 32 yards on seven carries. Jordan Rentz grabbed four passes for 27 yards.
