Leader Lions and Crow Wing Basin Forage Council announce 2010 Summer Grazing Tour

On Saturday, July 17, the Leader Lions and Crow Wing Basin Forage Council are holding their annual Grazing workshop and tour. The tour will focus on the implementation and use of conservation tools and methods to increase forage production and animal health on beef and horse operations.

Session topics include grass and legume variety trials, managed grazing system operation (fencing, watering systems, pasture seeding, and EQIP financial assistance), plant identification, rotating cattle with horses, agro-forestry, and managing wooded pastures with cattle and horses.

Special guest speakers include a University of Minnesota forage research scientist, a University of Minnesota extension educator, and a USDA NRCS grazing specialist.

The grazing workshop and tour is an opportunity to discover grazing resources as well as network with local grazers, University of Minnesota staff, and USDA NRCS staff.

Registration will also be taken at 8 a.m. at the Old Elray Restaurant at the Shell station in Motley. The bus will depart at 8:15 a.m. and return to Motley around 1 p.m. There is a cost, which includes transportation and lunch for the Old Elray Restaurant. Contact Sower with any questions.
