Operation Round Up program donates nearly $18,000 to 23 local organizations

Twenty-three local organizations received Operation Round Up grants.

At its May 3 meeting, the Todd-Wadena Community Trust board awarded 23 local organizations with Operation Round Up grants totaling $17,970.

Funds for Operation Round Up come from Todd-Wadena Electric Cooperative members who allow their monthly electric bills to be rounded up to the nearest dollar, with the change allocated to the Community Trust fund. The average donation is less than fifty cents a month, yet the Trust fund typically donates about $30,000 annually to community service projects in the two-county area. An additional $1,000 was donated to the fund in April by Todd-Wadena's power supplier, Great River Energy.

Todd-Wadena's Operation Round Up grant applications are reviewed and recipients selected by an eight-member volunteer Community Trust board. The Trust board recently amended its bylaws to award grants every four months. Future application deadlines will be Sept. 15, Jan. 15 and May 15.

Local, nonprofit community service groups may apply for Operation Round Up grants by stopping by or calling the Cooperative office at (800) 321-8932 or by downloading a copy of the application form and guidelines from the Todd-Wadena website:
