Arrest made in Verndale gun theft

Police believe they found the person responsible for a Nov. 25 burglary of a machine shed in Verndale in which guns and accessories were stolen.

On that day, a sheriff's deputy went to a residence on Farwell Street in Verndale on a report of a burglary. The homeowner there reported his machine shed had been broken into, and guns, gun cases, ammunition and scopes were missing. The victim approximated the value of the missing items was $3,484.

Verndale Police Chief Jeff Jares was given consent to search a home in Verndale on Dec. 8, and the chief found a rifle, scope and ammunition that matched the description and serial number of those missing from the machine shed. Jares traced the possession of the guns to Brandon Michael Snyder, 24, of Verndale, court documents said.

On Dec. 10, Snyder gave a Mirandized statement in which he admitted stealing two guns, according to court records.

Snyder was charged Jan. 25 with third-degree burglary and receiving stolen property. His first court appearance was set for March 1.
