Building burns on Verndale turkey farm

A building on the Burkel Turkey Farm burned Monday night, but no birds were hurt and it was contained to that building.

No animals were hurt when an outbuilding on the Burkel Turkey Farm west of Verndale on U.S. Highway 10 burned Monday night.

The fire was reported at 11:36 p.m., and the Verndale Fire Department, Verndale Police Department and Wadena County Sheriff's Department responded.

According to a news release from the sheriff's office, when deputies arrived on scene they observed a small wooden structure on fire next to a large propane holding tank. The structure had propane pipes and equipment inside it. The propane pipes and equipment were venting and putting out large flames. The Verndale Fire Department was able to shut the propane valves off and extinguish the fire. No other structures were damaged and no animals were hurt as a result of the fire.
