Special ed doesn't meet AYP again

Wadena-Deer Creek students rated proficient in reading and math in the latest MCA II testing but did not make the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in special education for the second year in a row.

Under the federal government's "No Child Left Behind" Act, a school failing to make AYP to years in a row is designated a district in need of improvement. A district improvement team will be looking at the available assessment information to determine strengths and challenges. The curriculum will also be reviewed.

The federal government has mandated that all students be proficient in math and reading by 2014.
