Eagles pounce on WDC

Steph Cichy fired a two-hitter Friday as New York Mills handed Wadena-Deer Creek a 9-1 setback in non-conference softball action at Mills.

Steph Perkins and Steph Hahn came up with WDC's two safeties.

Hahn was hung with the loss. Steph Cichy gained the win for the Eagles.

The loss was WDC's first in six outings this season.

Steph Perkins fired a four-hitter as the Wolverines edged the Tigers.

The Wolverines pushed the winning run across in the seventh despite collecting only three hits off Tiger hurler Erin Johnson.

Cecila Sakry singled after Jessica Wegscheid put down a sacrifice bunt, pinch-runner Heather Cooper scored on a passed ball.

Perkins did not allow an earned run. The senior ace walked three and fanned two. Johnson fanned six but walked five in the loss.

Sam Holweger doubled in a run for WDC in the first.

Sam Holweger had a monster day at the plate as the Wolverines swept Pequot Lakes Tuesday in a Mid-State twinbill.

Holweger went 3-for-5 and drove in eight runs and scored two in the opener. Amanda Perkins also had three safeties while scoring three times and driving in two runs.

Ashley Zimmerman and Katie Pahl combined for four hits and three runs.

Steph Perkins went the distance on the hill for WDC in cold, windy and wet playing conditions and surrendered six earned runs and nine hits while fanning five.

Game 2 saw the Wolverines explode for 15 runs in the first three innings.

Perkins and Lexi Hoemberg combined for four hits, five runs and two RBIs.

Zimmerman and Katie Peterson both had two hits and two runs.

Steph Hahn walked two and fanned four in gaining the victory. Kayla Wangren walked 10 in the loss.

The two clubs combined for 13 errors.
