Stanley Grant

Stanley Elmer Grant, 90, of New York Mills, passed away peacefully March 30, 2009, at the Elders' Home in New York Mills.

He was born Nov. 19, 1918, on a farm near Paddock to Elmer Oscar and Frieda Emily Victoria (Heuer) Grant. He attended country school near Paddock and graduated from the Sebeka High School with the class of 1936. He enlisted in the Navy in 1942. On Aug. 4, 1943, he married Mary June Primasing at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lebonan, Ore. He returned from the Navy in October 1945, and he and Mary made their home in Sebeka. They moved to Milwaukee, Wis., where Mary was employed with clerical work in a roofing sales office and he attended the School of Engineering. From 1949-1952, they made their home in Beulah, N.D., where they owned and operated an electrical appliance store. In spring 1952, they made their home on a farm northeast of New York Mills. In 1955, they returned to Milwaukee for a short time before moving to Minnetonka, Minn., for 10 years. The following years, they resided in Wahpeton, N.D., New York Mills and Coon Rapids, Minn. On Dec. 10, 1983, they moved into their retirement home in New York Mills. He enjoyed traveling west through scenic country of the United States and Canada. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Charles D. Center VFW Post 3289, where he was very proud to perform military honors for his fellow comrades. On March 16, 2009, Mary passed away.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 4, at Trinity Lutheran Church in New York Mills with the Rev. Jon T. Haakana officiating. Military honors and the pallbearers were members of Charles D. Center VFW Post 3289 of New York Mills. He was laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery, New York Mills. Arrangements were provided by the Karvonen and Son Funeral Home of New York Mills. Survivors include his daughter, Marlys Hoffman of Elk River; son, Ronald Grant of Chicago, Ill.; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; sister, Elsie (Bob) Robinson of Prescott, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Ruth Imsande of New York Mills; many other relatives; and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Grant; and siblings, Claire, Grace, Wayne, Pearl, Violet, Earl and Vernon.
