The Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines saw a 10-point halftime lead disappear in a 78-71 overtime loss to Detroit Lakes Friday night in Mid-State Conference action.

Travis Hensch saw his hot-shooting club fall behind by 10 early in the game but use a pick-and-roll to turn the tables and take a 34-24 halftime lead.

WDC built a 17-point lead at the start of the second half but when Donny Tabery drew his fourth foul the Lakers took advantage of some panic and tied the game 61-all at the end of regulation. With Tabery on the bench with five fouls, the Lakers dominated the overtime 17-10.

Point guard Reed Oistad led the Lakers with 24 tallies.

"We couldn't keep in front of him," WDC head coach Travis Hensch said. "He has a nice first step and we couldn't adjust."

Tabery had 21 points in the loss while Isaac Doll chipped in 15 and Scott Syverson netted 14. The normally steady Wolverines had a poor night at the foul stripe going 16-for-31.

"We lost our focus and struggled," Hensch said. "We shot very well against Pequot Lakes earlier in the week from the charity stripe and actually shot great the day before during shootaround."

The Wolverines will face Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Monday in the first round of the Sauk Centre Holiday Tournament. Game time is set for 1 p.m.

The Wolverines did some good free throw shooting in the first half as they canned 16 of 21 foul shots. Donny Tabery was perfect at the line, going 10-for-10. The Wolverines finished the game 23 of 32 at the foul line.

Michael Goerges came up with 21 points for the Pats while Jonas Dale scored 17 and Michael Ward netted 15. The Pats were 30 of 55 from the field for a red-hot 54 percent.
