John George Koehnen
John George Koehnen, 66, of rural Sebeka, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008, at his home in Paddock Township, Otter Tail County.
He was born to Clarence and Regina (Groeniger) Koehnen on Nov. 23, 1941 in Glencoe, Minn., where he was raised and attended school. He married Colleen McNevin, and four children were born to this union. He moved to the Sebeka area in the early 1970s where he farmed. In 1993, he was married to Judy Kinnunen Christensen. He was an avid hunter and loved fishing, he was an awesome cook and tremendous gardener. Canning was one of his many gifts and he was known for the "best pickles in town." He enjoyed socializing with a coffee clutch every morning with a group of close friends, "solving the community and world problems." He had a great love of his family and they meant the world to him. He was a recovering alcoholic of 36 years. He gained a strong faith in the Lord.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, Aug. 25 at Assumption of Our Lady Catholic Church in Menahga with the Rev. Michael A. Kellogg officiating. Honorary pallbearers were his grandchildren. Active casketbearers were Jack Sharp, Mike Hurtig, Charles Edwards, Tom Sharp, Jim Bedeau and Patrick Mc-
Nevin. Inurnment will be at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to Wevley Funeral Home of Sebeka.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Koehnen of Sebeka; his children, Sherry, Tammy, Jennifer, Angie, Mark, Bradley, Kelly, Tina and Danny; brother, Bob (Michel) Koehnen of Orono, Minn.; sister, Mary (Bob) Nelson; sister-in-law, Ethel (Earl) Peterson of Minnetonka, Minn.; mother-in-law Elvie Kinnunen; brothers-in-law Dennis Kinnunen of Wyoming and Bobby Kinnunen of Kentucky; sister-in-law Jean (David) Hendrickson of Kentucky; 17 grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers Douglas, Mark, Thomas and Lamont.
