Francis Joseph Goeden, 89, of Wadena, passed away April 19, 2008, at Lakewood Health System in Staples.
He was born on Oct. 10, 1918, to John P. and Frances (Erhardt) Goeden in Wadena.
He served in the Army Air Corps from 1942-46. He married Florence Rajkowski June 3, 1947, in Mayhew Lake. He spent his entire life in the Wadena community and was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Farm Bureau. Francis, a retired dairy farmer, was a literacy advocate and political philosopher. He enjoyed reading, gardening and photography.
The Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, April 22, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Wadena with the Rev. Donald Wagner as celebrant. Honorary pallbearers were Joe Goeden, Leo Goeden, Gerhardt Goeden, Bruno Ollie and Leroy Keppers. Active pallbearers were Duncan Brownlow, Daniel Goeden, Colin Brownlow, Zachary Hansen, Mark Schrom and Robin Lundgren. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery in Wadena. Johnson Memorial Home was in charge of the arrangements (www.johnsonmemorialhome.com).
Survivors include his wife, Florence; sons, Robert of Watson, James (Jane) of Wadena, Michael of Shoreline, Wash., and Cary (Diana) of Wadena; daughters, Mary (Rob Lundgren) Ollie of Meridian, Idaho, Trish (Mark) Schrom of Moorhead, Helen (Colin Brownlow) Goeden of Apple Valley, and Nancy (Zack) Hansen of Lindstrom; and 16 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Anna Marie; brother, John C. Goeden; and sister, Leona Hall.
