"She's out of this World!" was the theme for the 2007 Miss Wadena Scholarship Pageant. And seven stars from Wadena displayed their talent and poise Sunday night at Memorial Auditorium.

Rachel Papillon was crowned Miss Wadena and received a $1,000 cash scholarship. She also won the talent portion of the competition and a $150 scholarship for her piano solo "Maple Leaf Rag," by Scott Joplin.

Kayla Youngbauer was selected as First Princess and awarded a $500 cash scholarship. Youngbaurer also won the interview award with a $150 cash scholarship. And her friendly personality won her $50 for the Miss Congeniality award, which is voted on by the contestants.

Danielle Nehk was chosen as Second Princess and received a $250 cash scholarship.

Other awards in the competition included the evening gown category won by Erika Gilb with a prize of $50. Gilb also won the ambassador award with a prize of $50. And she was the top candy seller.

The judges for the competition were Mary Solien of Henning, Val Schmitz of Verndale and Kelly Meyer of Henning. Contestants were graded from one to 10 points and they were judged only against themselves.

Dan Skogen emceed the event. A dance number of "Lucky Star" by the contestants highlighted the evening.

Featured guest performers were the winners of the Wadena-Deer Creek fifth and sixth grade lip sync contest. Melissa Moenkedick, Shayna Horn, Katelyn Peters and Caitlin Volkman performed "I Love My Lips," by Veggie Tales.

Justin Tucker gave solo performances of "The Star Spangled Banner" and "Remember" by Josh Groban.

Briana Grothmann, Miss Wadena 2006, gave a tearful farewell as she recounted her fond memories of the past year and the friendships she has formed.

Next year will be the 25th anniversary of the pageant and the organizers are inviting all past Miss Wadena Queens to the 2008 pageant on Saturday, June 28. Plans include an afternoon reception and recognition at the pageant.
