James Eyestone

James Frederick Eyestone, 85, of Sebeka, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007, at Tri-County Hospital, Wadena.

He was born Oct. 30, 1921, in Fergus Falls, to Fred and Susan (Aldrich) Eyestone. He went through grade school in Nashua, Minn., and high school in Tintah, Minn. After high school, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and served through World War II. After discharge, he married Coreen Johnson. Together they had six children. In 1963, Jim married Katie Helsene. They lived at Rush Lake by Ottertail, and together had one son and two step-sons.

He enjoyed his hobby farm for deer hunting, snowmobiling, and four-wheeling. He enjoyed keeping up his big yard and garden. He loved watching sports of all kinds on television, particularly the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins. He had a shop where he spent many hours making wood-working crafts, which he enjoyed giving to everyone. He was employed by Luedtke of Alexandria as a salesman. He and Katie also owned and operated the Perham Bowling Lanes from the mid-1960s to early 1970s. He was also employed by Perham Co-op Creamery and Service Food of Perham.

Memorial services were held Saturday, Jan. 6, at Schoeneberger Funeral Home in Perham with the Rev. Joe Herzing officiating. Burial will take place in the spring. Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, is in charge of the arrangements. Online tributes may be posted on

Survivors include his wife Katie, Sebeka; children, Dale (Pat) Eyestone, Brainerd, Dorie (Dean) Koppelman, Valley City, N.D., Dennis (Theresa) Eyestone, Fargo, Paul (Julie) Eyestone, Plymouth, Minn., Darlyne Eyestone, Fargo, Barry Eyestone, Fargo, and Ricky Lee Eyestone, Perham; step-son, Larry Helsene, Brainerd; brothers, Joe (Delores) Eyestone, Northfield, Minn.; and Bob (Gloria) Eyestone, Perham; sisters, Gertrude Eyth of Pennsylvania; and Jeanette (John) Meyer of Ohio; brother-in-law and friend, Larry Johnson, Bloomington, Minn.; and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-son, Warren (Rusty) Helsene; sister, Kathryn Davidson; a niece, a grandson, and a great-granddaughter.
