Ryan Torkkola

Ryan Scott Torkkola, 33, of Menahga, died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2006, in Wadena County, the result of a traffic accident.

He was born Aug. 23, 1972, at the Grand Rapids Memorial Hospital to Leslie and Sonja (Inglebret) Torkkola. He attended Van Dyke Middle School, Conner Jasper Middle School and graduated from Greenway High School in Coleraine, Minn., in 1990. After high school, he enrolled in the machine trades program at Staples Technical College, in Staples. He worked at Berquist Switch in Bigfork, Marvin Windows in Warroad and was currently employed at Team Industries in Park Rapids.

While in Bigfork, he met wife and best friend, Vanessa Sue Andreen, born in Stephinville, Newfoundland, Canada, daughter of Phillip and Angeline (Childs) Andreen of Warroad. He and Vanessa were united in marriage March 3, 1996, and currently lived in Menahga with three children, Christopher Phillip, Nicholas Peter and Angela Faith.

A dedicated and loving family man who put the needs and wishes of his family first, he lived life to the fullest and enjoyed every day. Active in many community functions, he was an avid bowler and served as a board member and coach. He played and umpired in local softball leagues and was a proud member of the Menahga Gateway Lions Club.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 21, at First English Lutheran Church in Menahga with Pastor Steven A. Bruer officiating. Honorary pallbearers were the Menahga Gateway Lions. Active casketbearers were Rick Torkkola, Rodger Torkkola, Russ Torkkola, Randy Torkkola, Dave Carrier and Thomas (Beecher) Hoyer. Interment was at the Menahga City Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Wevley Funeral Home of Sebeka.

Survivors include his wife, Vanessa, and three children, Christopher, Nicholas and Angela of Menahga; Parents Leslie and Sonja Torkkola of Bovey, Minn.; Phillip and Angeline Andreen of Warroad, Minn.; four brothers, Rodger of St. Peter, Minn.; Richard and Holly of Clearwater, Minn.; Russell and Cheryl of Wells, Minn.; Randy of Clearwater, Minn.; many nephews, nieces and in-laws.

Preceding him in death were his paternal and maternal grandparents.
