Perham's Michael Brasel set the winning pace in the third annual No Spandex Necessary Triathlon Saturday morning in Wadena.

The muscular 42-year-old notched a time of 53:20. Runner-up honors went to Adam Krog of Clearbrook with a 56:09.

Rounding out the top five finishers were Wadena's Jeremy Moonen, with a 57:21; Baxter's Robert Gawboy, with a 57:21 and Wadena's David Sundheim, with a 59:21.

The best time turned in by a female was a 1:01.47 by defending champion Laura Moonen, who practices medicine as Dr. Laura DuChene.

"For me it's to prove to myself that I can," Moonen said. "I like the competition."

Placing second in the female division was Menahga's Jennifer Pinoniemi with a time of 1:03.58. Third place in the female competition went to Wadena's Chelsa Golberg with a 1:04.27.

A field of 32 athletes competed in the event which was organized by Tri-County Health Care and the Maslowski Wellness and Research Center.

Dr. David Kloss, who ran the swimming, biking and running event, was all smiles as he watched event come off under sunny skies. Kloss had more than 30 volunteers scattered over the course.

"They'll practice at home and they'll know they have some level of fitness," Kloss said. "The most important thing is that we want people who might do the race."

Sundheim, who won the event last year, was pleased with his performance in Saturday's race.

"This is the most prepared I'd ever been and I was hoping to be pushed and there are some real athletes here who pushed me," Sundheim said.
