Book Ends, the monthly meet-the-author event in Wadena, will welcome Ashley Shelby as its Dec. 9 guest at The Uptown.
Ashley is a novelist and former journalist based in the twin cities. Her critically acclaimed debut novel, South Pole Station, was published in July 2017 and has received praise from the New York Times, Washington Post, NPR, Publishers Weekly, Library Journal, Booklist, USA Today, and Time, among others.
Her first book, Red River Rising: The Anatomy of a Flood and the Survival of an American City, is a narrative nonfiction account of the 1997 record-breaking flood that devastated Grand Forks, N.D. Ashley's blend of reportage, flood statistics, and the human narrative makes for an excellent read.
There is no charge for the 11 a.m. event. Lunch is recommended but not required. Books will be available for sale by An Open Book and autographed by the author.
"The Red River flood story is a great piece of local history," Moderator and Nimrod author Jerry Mevissen said. "Ashley tells it well."
