Hay bales catch fire on semi traveling on Interstate 94

GLADSTONE, ND — More than 50 hay bales caught fire Tuesday, Oct. 17, on a semi trailer near Gladstone, shutting down traffic on Interstate 94.

A semi truck was hauling the hay bales on the trailer when the fire started about 4 p.m. The driver of the semi was able to disconnect the trailer from his truck and was not injured in the fire, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

Gladstone and Taylor firefighters responded to the call and were able to extinguish the fire and clear the scene.

Westbound traffic was re-routed to old Highway 10 in Gladstone during the road closure that lasted approximately four hours. Eastbound lanes were not shut down during the incident.
