In addition to the regular council meeting, the city is meeting to discuss the 2017 General Fund budget. A meeting to discuss the proposed budget for 2017 is at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22 at the city administrative center conference room.

Some upcoming projects that could be discussed include a proposal regarding property that is being considered to create a business park along Highway 71 south. A grant application is being worked on to help pay for adding infrastructure to the area. A new location and building will be proposed for the water and light building, which will need to be relocated due to the Highway 10 reconstruction project slated for construction in the next few years. Also, councilmembers will be meeting with a consultant to look at possible expansion, remodeling or new construction of the Wadena City Library in the near future.
Initial budget submissions and requests will be reviewed Aug. 22. A second meeting will be at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9 to review the budget and bring it into balance.
The city must approve and submit a preliminary budget to the state in September. The budget can be further reduced before the final budget is approved in December.
