United Way giving to Wadena food shelf
The fundraising campaign is underway, and according to Gary Sellman, treasurer, contributions and pledges so far total a bit more than $15,000, which is $10,000 under the goal set by the local board to meet the commitments to the agencies.
With increased need during tough economic times, the United Way board encouraged contributions, which can be sent to Box 22, Wadena.

Still searching for kidney, Patrick also fighting H1N1

Nineteen nearly lost to history
Doris Sophia Johnson was buried in Pioneer Cemetery 110 years ago, but she is not forgotten. The girl who died Nov. 30, 1899, at age 1 now has a marker for her tiny grave years after the original turned to dust.

Tappe employed ‘footwork’ to see Washington landmarks
Leroy Tappe traveled to the white cliffs of Dover to Omaha Beach all the way to Berlin during World War II. And this September the Wadena resident finally flew to Washington, D.C. to see the memorial built to honor him and others who served in the war.

Firefighters honor Fire Prevention Week with open house
Fire safety was fun Monday evening as kids escaped a “smoke-filled” house and snuffed out a blaze with a fire extinguisher at the Wadena Fire Hall. Firefighters put on an open house with cookies and fire safety events in honor of Fire Prevention Week.
