Sunday night update: It was an F4, WDCHS 'crumbling,' M State will rebuild
Here are the latest tornado recovery effort updates: • Emergency Management Director Scott McKellep reported he heard from NOAA Sunday afternoon that the tornado (yes, we can officially say that) was an F4 with peak winds in excess of 170 miles per hour. The tornado cut a path 1.1 miles wide and 10 miles long from southwest of Wadena to northeast of town. (The F scale goes from 0-5, with 5 being worst. NOAA says on its website that an F4 is considered “devastating.”)By Steve Schulz , June 20, 2010
Sunday update: SW quadrant reopens, no more passes
Here are the latest developments in the tornado recovery effort: • The southwest quadrant is now open to residents. NO MORE PASSES ARE NEEDED. However, the area is restricted to residents and those who are helping in the debris removal process. UPDATING: Wadena devastated by tornado
This was supposed to be a happy day in Wadena.
With a grand parade scheduled for 7 p.m. and around 2,000 people expected to come home for an All-School Reunion, Thursday has been circled on a lot of calendars in Wadena for many months.
Now it will be remembered for a devastating tornado that ravaged the city. At 5:10 p.m., everything changed.
