Report: Verndale liquor stores lost fifth most in state in ‘08

As the Verndale City Council struggles with what to do with its two municipal liquor stores, a state auditor’s report for the year concluded Dec. 31, 2008 shows Verndale lost the fifth-highest amount of money from operations in all of Minnesota.

Sierra Benning pumped in 25 points as the seventh-ranked Eagle Valley Rebels ousted 10th-ranked Verndale from the Section 5A playoffs with a 64-44 victory.

Verndale lift station suffers ‘major disaster’

A malfunctioning alarm system compounded a problem with a lift station in Verndale in February, Maintenance Supervisor Jim Bergquist reported Monday night, March 1, to the Verndale City Council.

The Verndale city council decided to send the owners of a closed church a bill that will likely be in the thousands of dollars after some ruptured pipes led to a huge water leak.

Gary Rosenthal has been put in charge of the Verndale municipal liquor store on U.S. Highway 10 inside Bullseye Bar and Grill’s building, with hopes of turning the struggling location around to profitability.

Pirates stop slide at 19
