Three grants of $1,000 each have been awarded by the Staples Community Foundation. The recipients and their projects include:

• The Staples All Veterans and Community Park Association was awarded $1,000 to help develop a comprehensive master plan. The park will be south of U.S. Highway 10 between Eighth and Ninth Streets in Staples.

• The Staples Wrestling Club was awarded $1,000 to renovate and upgrade the existing wrestling room at Staples Motley High School.

• The Staples Historical Society was awarded $1,000 to improve the landscaping on the grounds of the historic Northern Pacific Railroad Depot.

“We received requests for more funds than we had to allocate and they were all good projects,” said Julie Nelson, SCF grants committee chair. “We were pleased with the quality of the applications and wished we could have funded more.”

The mission of the Staples Community Foundation is to develop and strengthen community resources and to enhance the quality of life of individuals, families and organizations. Since its inception in 1999 the foundation has awarded over $70,000 in grant funding to area projects.

The foundation accepts grant proposals from nonprofit organizations within the Staples Motley School District boundaries that will address one or more of the following areas:

• Strengthening youth and families

• Improving community appearance

• Increasing community involvement and leadership

The next round of grant applications will be due March 15, 2010. For more information call 218-894-1399 or visit www.staplesfound.org.
