Tax impact for residential, commercial, ag land

School levy vote is Nov. 3

As the Nov. 3 special election draws nearer, people in the Wadena-Deer Creek School District have been asking questions and learning how the proposed operating levy will affect them, according to the school administration. Not surprising, one of the most common questions asked is: How will this affect my taxes?

Based on information compiled by Springsted, the school district’s financial advisor, three scenarios are presented for agriculture, commercial and residential taxpayers in the school district. All are based on $100,000 taxable market value. This information was compiled by using the tax calculator on WDC’s school Web site at www.wdc2155.k12.mn.us. District voters are encouraged to use this tool to calculate how the levy will impact their taxes.

Furthermore, the Minnesota Property Tax Refund will enable many homeowners based on income to receive a significant portion of the tax increase back from the state. Examples of property tax refunds are listed on the school’s Web site, or if you’d like a free estimate, contact Terry Tumberg, at (218) 631-1534.

For general questions about the ballot proposals or voting procedures, contact Wadena-Deer Creek School District at (218) 632-2155. If you have questions or would like additional information about the tax calculator, contact Springsted, the school district’s financial advisor, and ask to speak with a public education professional at (800) 236-3033 or e-mail at advisors@springsted.com.

The special election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at Wadena Memorial Auditorium, 304 Dayton Ave. SW. The polls are open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

My mom never raised me to be an atheist. I figured that out on my own. As far as the justice system goes, it's easy to say that it's based on the 10 Commandments due to the fact that the 10 commandments are mostly a collection of universal moral codes that most all humans are instilled with. Using that as a basis for your argument of the origins of our justice system doesn't hold a lot of water. And you are right, I've never served in our nations military. I don't agree with the policies that the majority of wars are based on so I chose not serve. I'm not taking anything away from those that choose to serve, in fact I have nothing but respect for those individuals. If I die and there ends up being a creator, boy will my face be red. But in my mind, a being that is all powerful and is responsible for the creation of the universe and the intricies of our inner selves would respect a creature that asked intelligent questions and sought the truth instead of blindly followed. With all the different religions that exist and have existed, your chances of ending up choosing the right one is slim to nil. Everyone is atheist, even you Abe. Do you believe in Zeus and Poseidon, or Odin, or Ra? No, that makes you atheist to those religions. I just took my level of atheism one step further. I also appreciate how this conversation has remained civil. I believe that nothing should be off limits to discussion, not even religion. Once something is off limits opposing viewpoints are blocked out and then tunnel vision develops and fanaticism of core principles ensues. So Abe, I appreciate your candor. I've always believed in ending a post with a pertinent quote, something that a person can take away with them. Here is my choice.
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God. ~Epicurus, 33 A.D.

Earl what do we have to lose here? When I die and believe in a creator and its true. All right if its not true I still tried to live a better life than I would have without faith! Now lets use your theory what happens at the end of time and there is a creator. What have you got to lose? The whole world Earl. I am sorry you are so against the thought of a creator. But remember Earl our Minnesota state statutes and laws is based on the ten commandments. You cannot denie that. I cannot believe your mom taught you to be an atheist. I am sure you never served time in the military in a war!! There is no atheists in a fox hole.. I can tell you from experience my friend!!

In response to Abe L's comment, how sadly the school system obviously failed you. If you took the time to actual study biology or read anything of substance on it you would see the errors of your ways. Just because evolution doesn't happen fast enough that you see it in your lifetime doesn't mean it doesn't happen. It's a process that is ongoing in every species. Children should be taught the truth, not indoctrinated into believing an invisible man created everything 6,000 years ago. That's another thing, if your views are correct that also means that the earth is only 6,000 years old, which is absolutely ludicrous. Quit living in according with bronze age myths. If you really even read the bible you would see it's filled with racism, sexism, and barbarism on a scale unequaled in any other tome. I'd be saddened if your version was correct and THIS is as good as humanity is going to get.

If biology doesn't interest you, maybe history will. The following is an excerpt from the Barbary Treaties 1786-1816, which was placed before the Senate of the United States and signed.

Treaty of Peace and Friendship, Signed at Tripoli November 4, 1796
"As the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion,-as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion or tranquility of Musselmen,-and as the said States never have entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mehomitan nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries."

I'll leave you with the following message. An evil man does evil things, that is to be expected. But for a good man to do evil...that takes religion.
