The hard-hitting Staples-Motley Legion crew scored runs in six of the seven innings Monday night in a 13-3 victory over Wadena-Deer Creek Legion Post 171.
Gunner Johnson held the WDC bats in check for four innings as Staples-Motley built a 6-0 lead.
Johnson helped his own pitching cause with two hits, one a home run, and two RBIs. Alex Jansson also drove in two runs with a double and a home run. Trevor Ness scored four times and tripled.
Matt Hagen had two of WDC’s four hits and drove in a run. Brandyn Swanson and Kevin Tumberg also drove in runs.
The WDC crew was guilty of four errors behind Gannon George, Matt Hagen and Nick Goeden. The three WDC hurlers combined to strike out eight but were touched for 10 unearned runs.
Post 171 is now 6-3 overall heading into a game with Bertha-Hewitt Wednesday night at County Stadium. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
