Next Sounds of Spirit Lake concert is July 15
Pat and Donna Surface and the Boundary Waters Boys will be in concert at the Sounds of Spirit Lake series at 7 p.m. Friday, July 15.
The free concert is held on the shore of Spirit Lake near the public access beach area. The rain venue is the auditorium of the Menahga School. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy music of the 50s, 60s and 70s by these nationally touring Grammy award winning musicians.
Pat Surface was born in St. Paul and lived in the foster care system. He was adopted at two years old by a family with a formidable musical legacy - the LaPlants - and grew up in Grand Rapids. He became a full-time touring artist in 1987, showcasing nationally for NACA (National Association for Campus Activities) and performing at colleges around the country. He pioneered family programming on college and university campuses and has worked with several Community Education organizations on early childhood/family programming. Pat Surface and his wife, Donna, were also key-note presenters and performers at the National Marriage Encounter Conference at St. John's University.
Now the owner of the international, award-winning record label based in Ely - Spiritwood Music of The Boundary Waters - Pat and Donna Surface sing and plays his hand-built LaPlant guitars - reaching millions with his solo performances, and with his award-winning band - the Boundary Water Boys.
Food and beverages are available on site, provided by the Methodist Church. Upcoming concerts include Monroe Crossing July 22, The Abiders Friday July 29, Davina and the Vagabonds Aug. 5 and Jeremiah James Korfe Aug. 12.
