Cantus to perform April 23

The Greater Wadena Arts League presents Cantus at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23 at the Wadena Memorial Auditorium. The ensemble will perform "A Place For Us", a musical narrative about the universal search for home. Program highlights include traditional folk songs and spirituals, as well as music by Leonard Bernstein, William Billings, Stephen Foster and Jean Sibelius.

"The program has a huge variety of repertoire from Inuit and Lakota chant to Mexican folk songs and early American music. The musical selection is just as beautifully diverse as our homeland - and that is what makes this concert so incredibly special," said Cantus tenor Aaron Humble.

Recognized for their artistic excellence and musical versatility, the nine members of Cantus rehearse and perform as chamber musicians, working without a conductor or music director, allowing audiences to experience a direct connection to the singers. The ensemble enjoys a vigorous schedule of international touring, concerts in its home base of Minneapolis/St. Paul, educational outreach programs and recording.

Since 1995, Cantus has released 16 albums on its own self-titled label, each to considerable acclaim. The latest Cantus recording, Song of a Czech: Dvořák and Janáček for Men's Voices, was released in 2013.

The Wadena Memorial Auditorium is located at Wadena-Deer Creek High School, 250 Dayton Ave. SE in Wadena. To order tickets, call (218)639-0804. Tickets are also available at the Wadena Pioneer Journal or Thrifty White Pharmacy in Wadena.
