Local artist receives library grant
The Wadena City Library and Kitchigami Regional Library System has awarded a $10,000 Art Aware grant to artist Amber Fletschock, Hewitt. The Art Aware program, funded by the Legacy Amendment, was established by KRLS to celebrate the creative relationship between the public library, its community, and the arts through the installation of site specific art at each of its branch libraries.
Fletschock's proposal was to create 3 — three dimensional collages for various areas inside the Library. The piece in the children's area is comprised of our earth's diverse ecosystem, highlighting seasonal change, plant and animal life, along with the moon and stars. The second two collages will be composed of quotes and passages offered by patrons of the library as well as the community. Recycled library materials will be used in the design. The collages will be installed in August 2015.
Fletschock lives in Hewitt with her family. She has had many group and solo exhibitions in the tri-county area as well as a permanent collection in Fargo, N.D. She has been the recipient of various awards and grants from the Five Wings Arts Council, the New York Mills Cultural Center and the Plains Art Museum.
